2023 Record: 12-2 (8-1) *Big 12*

AP Ranking: 4

Head Coach: Steve Sarkisian

Welcome to the SEC, Texas – a team that truly belongs. Just a slight jab at Oklahoma, but both these teams belong. The difference lies in this season as Texas promises to be a powerhouse; it’s far-fetched to think they won’t make a playoff appearance this season.

Steve Sarkisian and Quinn Ewers are gearing up for something special this season. As if Ewers didn’t have enough weapons already, Texas went out and snagged 4 veteran pass catchers in the portal this off-season. Headlined by Isaiah Bond(Alabama), this unit projects to be special. The offensive line is the best in the SEC which is how you make a successful transition.

The defense lost some key pieces from last year but the highlighted arrival of two Arizona transfers, Savea and Norton, give some hope to rebuilding the defensive line. Trey Moore comes in from UTSA to provide a pass rush and Andrew Mukuba from Clemson will now anchor the defense at the free safety position.

The Texas schedule is rough to say the least. They wind up with defending champs, Michigan in Week 2, only to play Georgia in the same five game span. That will be a brutal stretch, but with the new playoff format, a small hiccup does not ruin your chances any longer. I have a hard time betting against an experienced quarterback like Ewers. Expect Texas to make noise in their first year in the SEC.

Record Prediction: 11-1
