2023 Record: 10-3 (7-2) *Big 12*

AP Ranking: 16

Head Coach: Brent Venables

Welcome to the SEC. It’s about time, but could it be a worse time for Oklahoma? We are in year three of the Brent Venables era and we’ve seen some struggle with a Big 12 schedule. Now they enter the snake pit of the SEC and we’ll know much more about this team very soon.

Sooner fans have to be optimistic about this offense, but it is still their biggest unknown coming into the season. The offensive line is revamped and Dillon Gabriel is off to Oregon. Former 5-Star Jackson Arnold will step into the quarterback duties this season. The positive is the receiving corps is one of the best in the country, led by Nic Anderson who had ten touchdowns a season ago.

Venables will live and die by his defense. Now in year three of installing his system, I expect them to make another stride this season as they return almost all of their production on that side of the ball. Danny Stutsman may be the best linebacker in the country and Billy Bowman patrols the passing game over the middle in his Safety position.

The question remains, can they endure an SEC schedule from beginning to end? They’re slated to play six ranked opponents including Alabama and Ole Miss. It will not be an easy transition, but there are plenty of reasons why you could convince me they can make a smooth jump.

Record Prediction: 7-5
